The Challenge 

The key challenge of this project was to design a system that delivered high energy efficiency, ensured regulatory compliance with Part L and Part F of Irish building regulations, and addressed the problem of over-ventilation in the apartments. The team had to provide reliable heating and hot water while maintaining energy efficiency without compromising comfort or increasing operational costs.

The Solution

Our Technical Design & Renewables Team proposed an innovative solution with the EcoVolt VAir Mixed Flow Exhaust Air Heat Pump. This 2.8 kW system, combined with a 150-litre domestic hot water cylinder and integrated 50-litre buffer, was designed to provide efficient heating and hot water.

To enhance the system’s performance and prevent over-ventilation, the EcoVolt EVAir uses mixed airflow technology, pulling in both exhaust air from the apartment’s wet rooms and external air through an electronic damper. This approach ensures the system runs efficiently, reduces heat loss, and maintains a comfortable indoor environment year-round.

The Heat Merchants Renewables Team also commissioned the heating system and provides ongoing support and warranty maintenance for the EVAir system.
