Roof Hook - On Roof Systems for Tiles

Roof Hook - Since there are a vast number of different types of roofing tiles with different properties, we've designed just one roof hook that works and fits for all of them. The height adjustability in the arm of the hook, the ability to shift the arm left, right or centre and the smaller fixing holes in the base plate, all help to ease domestic installations with the use of just one type of roof hook. We’ve offset the fixing holes to protect the rafter.

Module clamps, mounting rail, roof hook and fixing screws are the only components that you need to fit this system and we have pre-assembled the roof hook so that it’s already prepared for connection to the mounting rail. This dramatically reduces the installation time.

Offset fixing holes to protect the rafter

As well as making the fixing holes smaller to accommodate smaller rafter widths, we’ve also offset these from each other within the base plate. This is so the pressure of the system isn’t focused on the screws in the same line and therefore, protects the rafter. We also take care within our designs, to further offset the roof hooks from each other to help distribute the weight of the system evenly across the roof and in doing so, avoids heavy point loading.

Roof Hook Systems

Roof Hook Slate - On Roof System for Slate or Tile

This an alternative solution for roofing slate/ tile that effectively replaces the slate/ tile with a flashing that sits over the fixing point. The metal plates sits so that its longer edge runs in the same line as the rafter and fixes into it using 2 screws. There is a threaded rod already attached to the plate that allows the aluminium flashing to slot over. We can then connect our mounting rail profiles to the threaded rod. Since slate is, by nature, a fragile material, this system avoids the dangerous and prohibited method of drilling through it, which is where the system got its name, but it can easily be used with any other roofing tile.

Designed for small rafter widths

A metal plate sits so that its longer edge runs in the same line as the rafter and fixes into it using 2 screws. There is a threaded rod already attached to the plate that allows the aluminium flashing to slot over. We can then connect any of our mounting rail profiles to the threaded rod. Weatherproof seal is already embedded into the flashing.

Flashing

The flashing is made from aluminium with a specially bonded EPDM cone integrated into it. During installation a hole is made in the top of the EPDM cone to make room for the threaded rod of the metal plate and once this is pushed down and positioned, it provides a weatherproof seal. As with all our EPDM products, it has a high performance in resisting UV, so it doesn’t crumble with exposure to sunlight.

In Roof Systems

The integrated solar roof system has a metal backing sheet, which is not only fire resistant but also doesn’t melt in high temperatures, unlike similar plastic counterparts available on the market. An aluminium base flashing is used around the entire system, making sure that it’s completely weatherproof and UV resistant, so that it doesn’t degrade with exposure to the sunlight.

It's completely weatherproof, because we flash all the way around the array.

We use aluminium base flashing for the sides and bottom of the array of the solar panels, which helps to allow the rainwater to run down the roof and into the guttering system. We also use a strip UV resistant EPDM tape along the top of the array to completely weatherproof it.

Pre-assembled pieces of rail with UV resistant EPDM layer, which separates the steel from the aluminium rail and avoids the chemical reaction between them from occurring also provides a secondary weatherproof seal around the fixings and works with the EPDM washer already on the screws.

Securely fixes to the substructure

The metal backing sheets are fixed into the building’s substructure to provide a secure connection against opposing wind forces. To do this, we ensure each sheet is fixed with 12 screws. Each screw is capable of achieving 5.5kN until it pulls out from a depth of 30mm timber, as a minimum. This means for a single sheet, the system can achieve 66kN minimum until the screws pull out, this equates to 27.5kN/m², which easily keeps the system securely fastened even in high winds.

The thick trapezoidal at 0.7mm so that we can use smaller pieces of our Mounting Rail Direct profile and fix into 2 of the crowns. We can achieve a minimum of 1.7kN before each screw pulls out of the steel at this thickness and each piece of rail is fixed with 4 screws. This equates to a minimum of 6.8kN per rail before the screws pull out, which easily keeps the system securely fastened even in high winds.
