ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING. A home charge point is usually installed on an external wall of the house and electric car charging is facilitated through your domestic electricity supply either from the grid, from your solar photovoltaic panels or from your battery storage solution. In Ireland home and public charge points have been standardised with Mode 3 charging using an IEC Type 2 socket 7 pin socket, (Mennekes socket).

Mode 3 charging is recognised internationally as the safest method of charging with additional safety features and communication aspects and will eventually be the accepted standard in all European countries.


A new government funded support scheme has been introduced to assist homeowners install an electric vehicle charge point on their property. The home charger scheme will provide a grant up to the value of €600 towards the purchase and installation of a home charger unit. The applicant must be the owner of an eligible new or second hand electric vehicle (EV).

EVBox charging cables are suitable for electric vehicles according to IEC 61851-1 standards, and are assembled according to the standards of IEC 62196-2. All EVBox charging cables are compatible with Mode 3 ISO 17409 charging stations. EVBox charging cables are assembled through an automated process, in which no screws are utilized. By using high quality rubber and composites, each charging cable remains flexible under the most extreme circumstances (i.e. extreme cold and extreme warmth). EVBox charging cables are tested and approved by the TUV, and meet all standards and requirements as mentioned above. At the end of each production procedure, each individual charging cable is tested extensively.


Elvi comes with a wall dock, charging station and fixed attached cable and is compatible with every electric vehicle as the charging station side of the cable is customized to Elvi, while the type of plug on other side depends on your car.
